Upcoming Friends Programs and Events

Mystery Mondays: Hosted by the Friends of the Poughkeepsie Public Library District on the last Monday of each month, the discussions will be at the Arlington Branch Library, 504 Haight Avenue, Poughkeepsie from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The discussions are free and led by Elayne Weinstein and Suzanne Christensen.

“Cozy” mysteries are fast-paced, fun tales generally set in a small town where the police foolishly discount the skills of the intelligent amateur female sleuth who ultimately solves the crime.

January 30: The Windsor Knot by Sharyn McCrumb: As Elizabeth MacPherson arrives in Georgia to prepare for her wedding, the sheriff hands her the ashes of a man who died five years before and who, oddly, apparently just died again. Elizabeth manages to cope with the mystery, her proper Aunt Amanda, a New Age caterer, a bimbo weatherwoman, and her bridal trousseau.

February 27: Mrs. Pargeter’s Package by Simon Brett: Mrs. Pargeter, a wealthy widow, is vacationing on the Greek isle of Corfu. Her traveling companion is another widow who arranged the package tour. When the friend is found dead in her room, suicide is suspected until Mrs. Pargeter starts sleuthing.

March 26: Trouble in the Town Hall by Jeanne M. Dams: Retired American teacher Dorothy Martin moves to the village of Sherebury, England, where she and a Cockney cleaning woman discover a body in the town hall. Dorothy begins her own investigation when she feels the police are moving too slowly and in the wrong direction.
